Summer with the kids

This year I'm literally spending my entire summer with my kids. Every day I actually figure in several hours where I take care of the kids. My wife and I split the day! CJ and Lily have been going to every known VBS in the north Texas region but Pierce is a different story.

It's God's way of having me connect with my children on a whole nutha level. I just hope I can remember that when I feel like strangling them for fighting and screaming with each other or when Pierce cries for no good reason.

I need to remember to just love them!

BUT BECAUSE THEY JUST WOKE THE BABY FROM SCREAMING AT EACH OTHER - I'M GOING TO START WITH THE STRANGLING!

I love my kids darn it!

My head is full and my kids don't care.

Today I woke up and wanted to conquer the world but realized that my kids don't care. The want me to hang out with them and play video games with them and hold them when they have bad dreams. I once heard a quote from one of my favorite pastors/writers - Rob Bell. Rob was speaking at the C3 Church Conference and before he finished his talk he reminding the group of overly-driven pastors that regardless of how hard they work, no matter how important they think their work is or how many of their congregation "depend" on them - their own kids DON'T CARE! They don't care! They only care if you hang out with them or play video games with them or hold them when they have bad dreams. He's right you know!

So with that said I'm still going to conquer the world today but I'm going to leave time for my kids. My non-caring, self absorbed, needy children who "depend" on me! I might even stop in the middle of my work today and play kung-fu fight with my son or play fashion show with my daughter or rock my baby boy when he's fussy!

Of course, when they go to bed tonight I will probably go back to work for awhile and make up for that lost time playing with them but since they will be asleep - they "won't care" anyway will they?

I love my kids!
